GPRS Solution for Elevators Remote Monitoring
Status monitoring and trends analyzing now become the major methods for elevator manufactures and system integrators to provide remote diagnosis and maintenance service to building property managers.
To provide elevator monitor system with reliable links, networking devices must be:
- Reliable in harsh environments (e.g.: EMI immunity, wide temperature)
- Easy and flexible installation for dispersed elevators
- Robust, with self-recovery function
The project mentioned below was about how InHand Networks helped an elevator manufacture who wanted to provide customers maintenance service in Israel.
In order to provide customers with remote diagnosis reporting service, the elevator manufacture contacted us for building a cellular networking system because their elevators located everywhere in the city and it was very hard for them to use cable or fiber. Considering the field site situation, we provided them with InRouter711GS55 (IR711GS55) industrial GPRS router and VPN solution.
At the remote site, there was a PLC which gathered information from different parts of the elevator. For example, some sensors detected the temperature, some detected vibration intensity. All these data would help to diagnose whether the elevator was working well, or which part need maintenance and must stop running. All the data was transmitted through the GPRS network created between IR711GS55 and the base station of local mobile operator. A fixed public IP was necessary for the center to enable data to be transmitted to the right server.
Besides, to ensure the security, IR711GS55 built an IPSec VPN tunnel to the center. This tunnel would prevent unauthorized access to the local PLC and prevent hacker attacks.
